Tennessee College of Applied Technology-Oneida/Huntsville’s president Dwight Murphy is pleased to announce that Caleb Harris of the welding program has been selected as the post-secondary “Student of the Month” for February 2019. Caleb is scheduled to complete the welding program in June 2019.
While in College, Caleb has participated in SkillsUSA and will be participating in the upcoming post-secondary state competition at the end of March in the welding sculpture contest. Caleb has represented the College as a SkillsUSA member by assisting with the following events: 2019 Legislative Luncheon, Open House, and Secondary Signing Day. In November 2018, he completed the Tennessee Leadership Training Institute in Nashville, and currently, Caleb is the TCAT-Oneida/Huntsville Student Government President. Caleb has a 4.0 GPA and is a National Technical Honor Society member. He will be representing TCAT-Oneida/Huntsville in Nashville on March 20 at the Day on the Hill National Technical Honor Society award luncheon. Caleb was a dual enrolled secondary student who excelled in welding on the secondary level also. There he won the gold medal award in the welding sculpture secondary SkillsUSA state competition both his junior and senior years. His senior year he also came in third at the secondary national SkillsUSA competition.
Welding instructor Chris Chambers remarks about Caleb, “Caleb started with a solid welding foundation from his time enrolled in the secondary welding program at York Institute and has continued to excel due to his exceptional worker ethics. Based on his actions while enrolled in the welding technology program, I have no doubt he will be successful in the future.” Caleb states, “I am very glad I chose to attend the welding program at TCAT-Oneida/Huntsville. Chris is an awesome instructor. The best welder I have ever seen. Chris is always there to help his students with anything they may need. He is a great example for his students to follow, and he has helped guide and encourage me during my time at TCAT-Oneida/Huntsville. He’s my mentor.” Caleb is the son of Danny and Jenetta Harris.
