HUNTSVILLE — Tennessee College of Applied Technology Oneida/Huntsville proudly announces the addition of two new evening program offerings on our Oneida campus and at Clarkrange High School in Fentress County.
Truck Driving will be offered this summer at Oneida, while Cosmetology will be offered beginning with the start of the fall trimester in September at Clarkrange.
The Truck Driving program is already offered as a day course on the Oneida campus. However, the evening classes will open the program to students who work full-time or are otherwise unable to attend classes during the day. The evening program will meet from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Saturdays. Classes will begin May 19 and end August 27.
Truck Driving is a 222-clock-hour course that equips students with the essential knowledge and hands-on skills needed for a successful career in commercial driving. The program’s training emphasizes safety, vehicle operation, maintenance, and the wide range of responsibilities beyond the driver’s seat. Students gain real-world experience operating commercial vehicles on interstates, two-lane highways, and city streets, while mastering critical skills such as backing and maneuvering. Prospective students must be at least 18 years of age and have both a valid driver’s license and an active CDL permit.
The new Clarkrange program will be TCAT’s second Cosmetology offering, joining the full-time program that is offered on the main campus in Huntsville. TCAT already dual-enrolls high school students from both Clarkrange and York Institute in Cosmetology at Clarkrange High School. The new evening program will meet from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Central on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Cosmetology is a 1,500-clock-hour program that offers training and experience in haircutting and styling, color and highlighting, nail care, skin care, makeup application, and salon management. The program prepares students to successfully pass the required state exam to become a licensed cosmetologist.
Cosmetology is the second post-secondary program offered by TCAT at Clarkrange High School since the school earned its COE accreditation. COE — the Council on Occupational Education — is the accrediting body of TCATs across Tennessee. TCAT Oneida/Huntsville also offers Culinary Arts as a post-secondary program at Clarkrange.
The addition of the Truck Driving and Cosmetology programs expands the number of evening programs offered by TCAT Oneida/Huntsville. Others include Culinary Arts at Clarkrange and the Morgan County Career & Technical Center in Wartburg; Farming Operations Technology at Morgan County; and Welding at York Institute.
