Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Oneida/Huntsville postsecondary student, Rhaylan Bowlin, recently participated in the SkillsUSA state competition in Cosmetology held at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Clarksville campus. At the competition, she successfully earned a top 10 spot in the categories of Long Hair Design, Men’s Haircut & Style, 90 Degree Cut, and Overall Winners, with Rhaylan finishing #1 in the state and receiving the gold medal. Along with winning the state competition, she received a large prize package and will represent Tennessee Post-Secondary in the Cosmetology competition at the National SkillsUSA Conference held in Louisville, Kentucky. Rhaylan is currently employed by Bee Flawless Salon in Oneida, TN.
TCAT Oneida/Huntsville’s Cosmetology Instructor, Jayne Roysden, says, “Rhaylan has ambition. She is a goal setter and achiever. She sees it, believes it, and does it. Rhaylan was a very naturally gifted student and a pleasure to teach. I look forward to the SkillsUSA National Cosmetology Competition in June 2020.”
The National Leadership and Skills Conference sponsored by SkillsUSA is scheduled for June 2020. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA is an applied method for preparing America’s high performance workers in public career and technical programs. It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. SkillsUSA also promotes understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement in community service activities.
