Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Oneida/Huntsville postsecondary and secondary students “bring back the gold” from the SkillsUSA state competitions held at the Chattanooga Convention Center March 31–April 3, 2019. Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Oneida/Huntsville students did exceptionally well with seven individuals receiving medals. Gold medalists were Caleb Harris for Post-Secondary Welding Sculpture and dual enrolled York Institute student Isaac Goney for Secondary Welding Sculpture competitions. Receiving the silver medal for Collision Estimating Total Loss Evaluation competition was Post-Secondary Collision Repair Technology student Jordan Watson. Also receiving a silver medal was the dual enrolled York Institute Welding Fabrication Team consisting of David Haley, Alec Crabtree, and Kendall Franklin. Scott High School and TCAT-O/H student Daniel Phillips received the bronze medal in the Secondary Welding Individual competition. Other competitions TCAT-O/H participated in were Katelyn Hamby in Job Interview, Bailey Brooks in Welding Individual, Brandon Morgan in Extemporaneous Speaking, and Adam Conners, Ethan Probst, and Dillon Woodward in the Welding Fabrication Team. The gold medalists will represent Tennessee SkillsUSA in the competitions at the National SkillsUSA Conference held in Louisville, Kentucky.
The National Leadership and Skills Conference sponsored by SkillsUSA is scheduled for June 24–28, 2019. SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA is an applied method for preparing America’s high performance workers in public career and technical programs. It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills. SkillsUSA also promotes understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement in community service activities.
